STUDENT LIFE: ATTRIBUTES OF SUCCESSFUL COLLEGE STUDENTS

7 ATTRIBUTES OF SUCCESSFUL COLLEGE STUDENTS

To be frank, being a college student is not an easy task. On the contrary, it's an hurdle-filled experience.

Yes, college is a transitional part of life, moulding students to be mature and givers of society. But, however, your success in college hangs on your attitude and some other ingredients inclusive.

Come to think of it, what makes a student successful in college while another struggles to make headway? Though luck is likewise a contributing factor, there are quite a number of personality factors that can also be helpful to students.

One should however know that there is no one approach or strategy for a successful college experience. But there are some attributes that are inherent in many students who have been successful in college.

Consider the following list of attributes that will enable you re-shape and position yourself to a track of collegiate success;

1) SELF-CONFIDENCE: You can if you believe you can. The journey to a successful college experience doesn't always go to the stronger or intelligent student, but sooner or later, the one who is successful is the one who believes he can.

Before anyone can believe in you, you've got to believe in yourself and your ability to achieve what it is you want to achieve.

The confident ones are often times seen in the front-line, as successful leaders irrespective of their field. You can't really name any successful leader in any field who do not show this attribute.

2) PRIORITIES: One thing for sure that a student must do is to set priorities. Obviously, it is not feasible to read or study all through the day. You will definitely go haywire.

But that doesn't mean you should not study hard as a student. It is just a matter of setting your priorities right. It is very very imperative to arrange your day to day activities in the order of preference.

That is to say, you should work on a scale of preference for every of your activity, knowing which is foremost and which is the least.

Putting this in place will make you stay organized and achieve tasks in an efficient and effective way.

3) COMMUNICATION: This for sure differs from people to people. But regardless of the type or form of communication, you have to be able to communicate well with your course mates, roommate and most importantly, your lecturers.

This might make you uneasy at first. But come to think of it, you're stuck with these sets of people for the whole of your stay in college!

Many lecturers or professors find it difficult to release or communicate all the knowledge they've stockpiled in their arsenal in the lecture room, mostly because of the limited time.

Then how do you unlock this knowledge- QUESTIONS! Ask questions. Don't be afraid to visit these professors at your leisure.

Of course, communication isn't just about talking, it's also about listening and keeping your ears open to new ideas, concepts and approach to solving potential problems. You CANNOT really learn much if you're always doing the talking!

 4) ADAPTABILITY: No two days are the same. This also applies to college life. Each day presents its  challenge to you, a test, to test your determination, your focus and will-power.

It is therefore advisable and important for you to remain adaptive to these ever- changing situations.

Sometimes, you will have a whole lot of classes to attend, catch-ups and assignments to do. While some days come with less work.

It is imperative to be able to adjust and adapt quickly to those different situations while maintaining your balance.

5) PAYING ATTENTION TO INFORMATION: This like others is solely important. As a student, you have to pay attention to every detail. This involves ALL. That is small things inclusive.

Neglecting those small details is more or less giving away your marks or points. Remember, it's the small detail gathered together that makes up a whole.

While you do not have to strive for perfection at all times, paying attention to the small things will help to set you apart from the crowd.

6) TIME MANAGEMENT:  College students are well-known for their lack of sleep, up- all night reading and top of it all, imbalance of time.

It is very possible for you to get enough sleep every night while still fulfilling everything that needs to be done. It is just a matter of managing your time!

You do not need to spend lots of time doing what's not necessary. Get your work done first, so far as it's your primary aim, before the fun stuff or other things.

I tell you, this actually helps. Once you devise a way of completing your work, you can have fun and still get enough sleep.

7) DETERMINATION: Last but not the least. Determination is one common attribute among students who make it.

Without  the drive and self motivation to gain the most knowledge out of your courses, do assignments, tests and exams to the best of your ability, you'll definitely fall short of what's expected. Be determined, set goals and keep your eyes on the prize!.

Conclusively, as a student, if you imbibe these attributes, you can be sure to have a successful college experience.
