STUDENT LIFE: WHAT KIND OF LEARNER ARE YOU?

WHAT KIND OF LEARNER ARE YOU?

WHILE THERE ARE UNIVERSAL truths about learning which applies to all and sundry, it's also crystal clear that- it is different people, different ways of learning.

Learning styles bring together common ways that people learn.

Everyone has a blend of learning styles. To some people, a specific learning style seems dominant while others lurk in the shadows. But this  is not to say that they're unadapted.

However, there's no right or balanced blend. Nor are your styles fixed. You can develop ability both in your recessive and dominant learning styles.

To cut the long story short, educational researchers have packaged Various schemes that distinguishes between different types of learners.

In no particular order;

# Serialist vs Holist:

Serialists are oftentimes drawn to work in somewhat sequential order. They're more likely to read a book from start to finish.

On the other hand, holists approach a task as whole and swim from one section of it to another, keeping the general picture in view.

# Verbal vs Logical vs Spatial:

Some are easily engrossed when it comes to reading text but bored with diagrams and tables.

However, others find it relatively easy to read tables of numbers using logic and reasoning, and enjoy working with information arranged in form of diagrams, but struggle with long passages of text.

#Deep learning vs Surface learning:

Though deep learning is somewhat appropriate for most higher level study, some students are more accustomed to just getting information to be remembered( surface learning).

However, others tend to burrow through passages of text to discover the basics( deep learning).

Nevertheless, there's a disagreement about how useful it is to make distinctions between learning styles and about which distinctions are most sensible.

But, it's worthy to note that the above mentioned styles and others you may come across if you want to explore the topic yourself by searching the internet, are very effective in the right situation.

The KEY is to know your default style, the one you gravitate towards perhaps without even noticing.

This is not to say that your default style of learning isn't correct or more important than the others. But, you can simply make use of a blend of these styles to stimulate thinking about your learning preferences.

Try them out today and discover the kind of LEARNER you are.
